Summerbridge Pittsburgh’s Diversity Day is Friday, July 13. This year, Summerbridge will welcome special guest Mayor Fetterman to speak with students about the importance of a high school education and how diversity energizes a community. Below is more information on Mayor Fetterman of Braddock, Pennsylvania:
Since becoming the mayor of Braddock in 2006, John Fetterman has had a bold vision for revitalizing his impoverished community. Using an unorthodox approach, he attracts young artists, entrepreneurs, and urban farmers to the streets of his town. His efforts have landed him on the cover of Atlantic Magazine, labeled “America’s brave new thinker,” and he has won the coveted title of “America’s Coolest Mayor.” Through his continued efforts working with the greater Pittsburgh area, Mayor Fetterman has made an impact bringing Braddock back into the spotlight by using his community as the backdrop for movies and most recently the Levi’s jean commercials.
Mayor Fetterman will address Summerbridge students from 1:20 to 1:50 pm in the Middle School Commons at Sewickley Academy.
