Senior School
Greetings from the Head of Senior School
Academic vigor that thoroughly prepares young people for the future in a warm and caring community is the hallmark of Sewickley Academy's Senior School. Through a wide variety of foundational as well as elective courses and programs, we challenge students to use their talents in dynamic and exciting ways.
The Senior School believes that teachers have a transformative effect on their students by encouraging young people to reach their full range of potential - whether that be in the classroom, athletic field, theater, or the art studio. Small classes and a tradition of close relationships between student and teacher allow students to explore issues beyond their immediate environment. The Senior School's advisory system matches students with a teacher who serves as the student's advocate and mentor throughout their time at the Academy.
As a college preparatory school, the Senior School offers a broad range of high level courses, including honors and Advanced Placement programs. Graduates of the Academy are accepted to a broad range of competitive colleges and universities, and most are admitted to their top-choice school. The Senior School also emphasizes the importance of character and strives to maintain a community of respect. As a result, visitors and new students feel particularly welcomed into our setting.
All of this takes place in an environment of trust and compassion that allows everyone to be at their best and to achieve their full individual and collective potential.
Sincerely,
Bruce Houghtaling
Head of Senior School
