Community
Four core values lie at the heart of Sewickley Academy's mission: character, educational vigor, diversity, and community. While these are the values that we teach and instill in our students through our academics and extracurricular programs, they are also the values that we uphold as a member of our local community. As the oldest independent school in Pittsburgh with a rich history of traditions, Sewickley Academy is fully committed to supporting the community that has allowed it to grow and prosper for over 171 years.
Our goal is to be a community resource, an active community member, and a good neighbor. The Academy offers the use of many of its facilities to other groups and schools and welcomes opportunities to partner with other organizations. Our open-to-the-public programs demonstrate our commitment to the enrichment of the community though educational, cultural and artistic opportunities, as well as events and performances that bring diversity of thought and ideas to our neighborhood. In addition, we teach our students to become civic-minded and involved members of our internal school community, with the intentional goal of also creating productive contributors to the greater society through volunteer time and efforts.
