The Sewickley Academy boy's basketball program has become one of the top programs in all of Western Pennsylvania; capturing six section championships the past eight years, winning WPIAL Championships in 2004, 2009 and 2010, a state finalist in 2004 and State Championships in 1997 and 2010.
While the taste of victory lingers, it is the knowledge of success that is lasting. The greatest basketball coach of them all, John Wooden, defines success "as peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming."
Basketball is a fast-paced sport that requires mental aptitude, athletic ability, and the heart and soul of the competitor. Individual skills are developed in the off season. Players continue to develop their talents in the winter months, while they learn to surrender their self-interests for the greater good so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
SA practices are intense and competitive. Our players learn to be risk takers. Although individuals may vie for the same positions, they assist each other in their development through hard work and good camaraderie. Games are our student-athletes' opportunity to demonstrate their individual and collective strengths. We enjoy playing against some of the best teams in the WPIAL as well as outside the area. We look forward to the continued support of the Sewickley community this winter in what promises to be another exciting season of basketball.
