Remembering Jerry Smith
It is with great sadness that we shared the news of Jerry Smith's passing with the entire Sewickley Academy community last week.
A 44-year Sewickley Academy veteran, Jerry began his career at SA in 1967 as a French teacher and then became part of the Academy's technology department in 1998.
Our community of students, parents, alumni, and friends are keeping Jerry Smith and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
We welcome you to share your memories of Mr. Smith in this blog created in his memory.

Every Gift Counts -- TWICE!
The Panther Challenge for The Fund for Sewickley Academy was launched in early April, with the debut of the Panther Challenge video.
Since then, SA has received donations totaling $34,840! This amount will be doubled thanks to generous donors who are committed to achieve 100%% participation in support of our school.
If you have not had the chance to give to The Fund for SA this school year, now is your chance to double your gift! Accept the Panther Challenge now!
See how your gift makes an impact!
Currently, only 7%% of SA alumni have given to the Fund for Sewickley, while 11%% of alumni from other Pittsburgh area independant schools have given to their schools' annual fund. The future of Sewickley Academy depends on your support! Thank you!
What is SA Doing for You?
Great things are happening all over campus this year and the Alumni Council is no exception! The 2010-2011 year has brought lots of changes to the AC - new bylaws, new officers and members, and lots of new ideas. We have stepped up our efforts to connect alumni with one another and with our alma mater, but we want to hear your thoughts on how the AC can work for you!

Sewickley Academy Through the Years
Take a walk down memory lane in the Hansen Library's historic hallway.
The corridor connecting the Hansen Library and the Senior School is lined with archival cases commemorating Sewickley Academy's history and the many changes that have occurred throughout the decades. Next time you are on campus, be sure to visit this beautiful display of SA photos and memorobilia.
Catch of glimpse of the historical cases on display.

There are Bulldozers on Campus! What is Going On?!?
If you live in the Sewickley area, you have probably already seen the bulldozers and heavy equipment working at the Academy, however, for those who live far away, you can catch a glimpse of the work here. Construction has officially begun on Phase I of the PICTURE THIS Campaign.
These initial improvements include the return of the Senior/Middle School parking lot to a green space for students, the creation of new parking lots, and a school bus turnaround to ease traffic and increase safety on campus.
Watch a video showcasing the improvements being made to the SA campus (and hear Director of Buildings and Grounds Tim Hastings '77 give his take on the project!). Read the full Beaver County Times article.

What is Going On with The Alumni Scholarship Fund?
In 2007, the Alumni Council established a scholarship fund in honor of the entire alumni community. As of April 2011, the Sewickley Academy Alumni Scholarship Fund has received $22,316.07 in charitable donations from alumni of all generations. While we are incredibly appreciative of these donations, we are still a long way from the goal of $1,000,000.
The alumni council, led by President Amy Muse Lang '80, is exploring new ways to invigorate this special scholarship fund and inspire alumni to reach our goal. If you are interested in joining the committee for the Alumni Scholarship Fund, please contact Amy Lang '80 for more information. You do not need to be on the council to volunteer for this committee!
