Correct Manuscript Form for Essays and Papers
1. Use white 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper, no frayed edges
2. Write or type on only one side of the page
3. Write or type in black or blue ink
4. Double space between each line of writing.
5. Leave a margin of about 1 1/2 inches at the top
of the page and about 1 inch at the sides and the bottom. The left
margin
must be straight.
6. Indent the first line of each paragraph about one half inch from the left margin.
7. Place your name, the date, and your period number
in the upper right hand corner of the first page. Single space this
information.
8. The title of your paper should be centered on the
first page, below your heading and about one inch above the first
paragraph. Do not
place title in quotation marks or underline it.
9. If the paper is more than one page long, start
numbering on the second page. Place the number in the upper
right hand corner of the
page, about one half inch from the top.
10. When typing your paper, use 12 point Helvetica, Times, Palatino, or a similar plain font.
11. Place a single staple in the upper left hand corner
if your paper is longer than one page.
